Amazon says Cyber Monday 2017 was its biggest shopping day ever
We already knew the Alexa-powered Echo Dot speaker was Amazon’s top-selling item from the holiday shopping spree that spanned Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, but now the final numbers are in. Sort of.
The ecommerce giant has confirmed that Cyber Monday was its biggest shopping day in history, surpassing the previous record set during its own Prime Day back in July. It is worth noting here that Amazon’s metric relates to the overall number of items ordered, rather than dollar-figure sales, though of course there is a strong correlation between the two.
Needless to say, Amazon hasn’t given out any information involving hard numbers. The company said that it sold “hundreds of millions of products” over the five-day period and that Cyber Monday 2017 sales through the Amazon app (presumably mobile) grew by 50 percent from last year.
Eager to highlight its popularity with smaller third-party merchants who sell through the platform, Amazon added that Cyber Monday was also the biggest day for small businesses, which sold around 140 million items collectively between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.
